dumpster

To make the dumpster, I created a box and opened up edit Polly. I then added splines and extruded and bevelled them to create the right shape and textured them with physical materials. I then made a wheel from 2 cylinders and edited them into the shapes I wanted and textured it with physical materials and used copy/instant once then cloned it to have a second. I repeated this creating the 4 wheels at the bottom. I made this early on back when my scene was going to be simple colours, so it’s a little reflective but it is simple shapes and colours so I think it transformed well into the scene.

The Cans

The Cans were made using cylinders and edit Polly to create the basic shape. I used a standard material and applied a Photoshop file under the diffuse colour to add the label. I then altered the shapes to give it a crushed effect and scattered some next to the bins. I planned to add more clutter to the environment to give the environment a more urban. Scabby, lived in feel but all we got were 3 cans.

The Flask

I created a cylinder in 2 segments and in Edit Polly I altered the basic shape of the bottom of the cylinder first by extruding it and then by moving the pollys from the top perspective into the shape I wanted. I then bevelled the centre and pulled it inward so the metal would stick over the centre texture. I then took the top half of the cylinder and extruded it out and back in to make the bit the cap would hit. I then extruded along and bevelled inwards and then extruded inside itself to make the hole and made a second cylinder to make a small lid for it.

I textured the metal parts with a standard material and used one of my textures for the handle.

The notepad

The notepad was made by creating and texturing a square which made the paper. I used 2 textures one on the front and back to look like slightly worn lined paper.

Also on the one on the sides with a displacement added at a value of 8 so the object isn’t a perfect square from angles though it was too dark to see it properly so I may have turned it off.

I then added the back texturing it to look like a worn leather back pad so there was something to keep the paper flat. The Rings were then added by creating one tube radius 1: 5.0 radius 2: 7.5 and height of 2.5 and positioning it at one end and holding shift and dragging it to the spacing I wanted. When I let it go it gave me the cloning options and I set the number of copies to 8 and the object to instant and textured the rings with basic materials.

The Car

I created the car using real world measurements of a 1960 Beetle car, although in its actual design, I chose to do an original design based on my own image of a 1940’s/1960’s detective car, starting with a square and editing the shapes that I wanted; keeping the design simple. The doors and hood/bonnet and boot all open though I never modelled anything in the interior. The Omni light above the car’s top light is used as the fill light for the introduction scene, as it illuminates evenly in all directions. I added two headlights on the front where I applied a bend modifier to two cylinders, textured and positioning them. The car has seven different material sections including metals, glass and rubber.

The car has seven different material sections including metals, glass and rubber. I created it in 3DS Max. The doors and hood/bonnet and boot all open though I never textured or did anything to the inside. The Omni light above the car light is used as the fill light for the scene as it illuminates evenly in all directions. It changes colour every twelve frames as does the material on the cherry.

I created the berry light on top by cutting a cylinder in half and placing an Omni light above it. The light changes colour every twelve frames as does the material on the cherry which I had to manually synchronise.
