1 Summary

I wish to produce a short narrative animation (over 90 seconds) over the rest of my course - from 02.02.2018 to 12.05.2018. This animation will demonstrate all the skills which I have learned in the last two years through education and skills I’ve acquired on my own initiative. The skills and knowledge will help build and develop the animation from the concept and development stage, through production and post production processes.

2 Elevator Pitch

I am interested in making a short noire styled animation with a twist at the end using the abilities I have acquired over my time in further education. I wish to showcase my abilities through modelling, texturing, animating and lighting to an entertaining narrative.

3 Mission Statement

I would like to showcase my storytelling and animation abilities which will include Digital drawing in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, sequencing in Adobe Flash/Animate cc, editing audio for the animation in Adobe Audition and applying music and sound effects in Adobe Premiere.

4 SWOT Analysis

Strengths: I take pride in what I do, therefore I will work hard to ensure the quality of my work. I have a personality that does not get stressed easily or for long, which means that I tend to be optimistic even when things go wrong. I learn from my mistakes – In a previous project I made a mistake with a character who was unable to move. I was able to give him the appearance of movement by camera tricks and altering the environment.

Weaknesses: I lack experience in creating animations from the ground up and may be ill equipped to face unforeseen obstacles which I may be unprepared for. My animation abilities have much room for improvement. I haven’t found the method that works best for me, the style may be complicated and more technical that my previous work. I have combated that by designing enclosed spaces to work in and planned for more cameras.

Opportunities: People will be able to see my work, my skills and abilities and I can judge on my improvements in the last two years. I also have the ability to improve on the talents I have already and skills I have acquired.

Threats: I currently have a poor performing home computer, which often crashes and means that work can take longer or may be lost. Public transport may be an issue as when travelling to college it takes me two hours and at times I can miss my connection – this limits my time using the college computers. The biggest threat is that I have dyslexia which causes poor writing skills and I also have Asperger’s syndrome which can cause me to be obsessive over one aspect of my work over others.

5 Goals

To develop an idea from conception to scripting, storyboarding, developing and producing a character, environment and implementing sound and effects to make an enveloping animation.

6 KPIs

1 By the end of January I should have story boards and a script ready

2 By early February I should have finished the storyboards and the concept work and start building my scene

3 By mid-March I hope to have the scene finished with appropriate lighting

3 By April I hope to start preparing the character movements for the animation

5 By the beginning of May I hope to be rendering my animations and beginning the post production stages in after effects.
